Another Successful Tesco Food Drive

1st July 2019

Thank you to everyone who supported our recent Food Drive at Tesco. Despite the rain and the distraction of a new supermarket opening in town we are proud to report that we collected 1027kg of food which is valued at an amazing £1,795.
Foodbank Manager Marion Homer said,
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to the local community of Stratford upon Avon for once again  responding so generously to our  food drive. We used a targeted shopping list which meant we received plenty of the key items  we need to ensure our three day emergency  food parcels provide the nutritional balance advised by the Trussell Trust.
“During the two day food drive we were ably supported by some wonderful corporate volunteers from local companies ; NFU Mutual and Co-op Legal Services – who worked productively and enthusiastically and were key to ensuring we achieved this significant result.”
“The support of the community is particularly welcome at this current time of increasing need. Stratford’s foodbank has seen an increase of 48% year on year. Specifically, we are seeing an increase in the number of families seeking our support. The numbers of children’s food parcels we are providing is up a shocking 74% year on year. We believe this is due to the 5 week wait experienced by families as they move across to Universal Credit.”
Marion adds,
“Stratford is a lovely place to live and I count my blessings daily that I am raising my family here. However, those of us fortunate enough not to have to worry about feeding our children should not forget that even here, in this lovely town which visitors across the world visit,  there is deprivation and evidence that our economy is not working for everyone.
“Our foodbank currently provides 114 food parcels for children each month. In a society that prides itself on dignity and justice for all this is completely wrong.”
