Successful charity concert helps local Foodbanks

10th February 2023

Shakespeare Lions were delighted to handover a cheque for £1,650 to the Stratford Foodbank last week following an evening of music at Holy Trinity Church late last year. A further £275 has gone to the Arden Foodbank in Alcester.

Commenting on the event, Anne Turner from Shakespeare Lions, thanked all those volunteers and contributors who were involved. “Concert goers enjoyed songs from the Alcester Male Voice Choir and St James’ Youth Choir as well as various musical solos from KES students. We were thrilled to be supported by such talented choirs and individuals and received many positive comments from attendees. A number of local businesses including Tescos and Sainsburys also supported the event through donations which were much appreciated.”

Nick Barter, Chair of the Stratford Foodbank, also attended the evening and enjoyed the event. “Our continued operation relies on grants and income from numerous organisations as well as the generous support of individuals with food or monetary donations and the dedication of the manager with an amazing team of volunteers. The demands on us, as with all Foodbanks nationally, are increasing rapidly in the current environment so we are very grateful to Shakespeare Lions for their ongoing support.”

Given the success of the evening Lions will now be considering whether to run a similar event at a later date.
