Foodbank Pathfinder Development Officer Vacancy

Reporting to:                 Foodbank Strategic Manager/Pathfinder Lead

Role purpose:

To support the Foodbank Strategic Manager/Pathfinder Lead in developing activities and initiatives as part of the Trussell Trust Pathfinder programme. Where we will test, develop, and implement ‘more than food’ initiatives to explore and understand the underlying causes of poverty in our local community.

 The role:

To work alongside the Pathfinder Lead, to gain a greater understanding of the issues Foodbank clients face in our local community. To help engage and support groups who are currently, or recently had to rely on charitable food support. Alongside sharing their own experiences, you will encourage and enable members of these groups to have a voice and share their experiences, in a safe space. To help identify and understand what support would help people to not need emergency food. To assist in the capturing and sharing of learnings to provide the Trussell Trust and our Foodbank Trustee Board with a greater understanding of the needs in our District and the support available.

 Key responsibilities:

  • To build relationships with our Foodbank clients to develop trust and understanding.
  • To work with key stakeholders to facilitate a wider understanding of how we can work in partnership to meet the needs of our local community.
  • To connect with people in our community with lived experience. To encourage participation with the Foodbank and local support agencies and partnerships, whether previous or current foodbank/local food aid users.
  • To facilitate events, workshops, group meetings, forums, and other sessions as appropriate.
  • To provide logistical support – arranging venues and refreshments for “get togethers” ensuring these are accessible to everyone.
  • To be responsible for capturing data both quantitative and qualitative to provide feedback and ensure effective learning.

  • Enjoy engaging with people and making a difference at a local community level.
  • Show empathy and value everyone’s contribution.
  • Be a skilled relationship builder.
  • Have honed listening skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Have experience of dealing with vulnerable people.
  • Be organised and self-motivated.
  • Be able to engage with people through a variety of different mediums.
  • Be open to learning from and listening to others.
  • Show commitment to tackling poverty and reducing the need for foodbanks.
  • Be passionate about social justice and sympathetic to the values and ethos of the Trussell Trust.
  • Have the ability to cope under pressure.
  • Have good organisational skills that promotes effective planning and delivery of tasks and activities.
  • Be able to capture learning to report to Trussell Trust as part of the Pathfinder programme.
  • Be willing to develop their own skills through various learning and development opportunities.

Skills/competencies required:

  • Skilled relationship builder with effective listening skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Project management experience with evaluation/impact skills.
  • Organisation skills with ability to plan own workload.
  • Empathetic with an understanding of “lived experience”.

 Considerations:

  • A full driving licence and access to a car insured for business purposes.
  • Occasional evening/weekend hours may be necessary.
  • Hybrid working considered.

 Hours:

22.5 hours per week (3 days to be agreed, to include Friday)

Salary:

£15,000 / 3 day week (£25,000 FTE)

Benefits:

Holidays 17 days / 3 day week (28 days FT)

 Training:

Training will be provided in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures.
