Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

These are the roles we are currently recruiting for:

1. Food Drive Coordinator

You will work with the volunteer coordinator to organise and coordinate food drives for the foodbank. You will create volunteer rotas for instore and for additional warehouse shifts to run food drives and plan the logistics of transport to move donated stock from store to the warehouse and have a coordination role on the day.

Food drives happen on average twice in a three month period. Dates are not fixed although we always have a three day food drive in Tesco on the first weekend of December. Food drives operate between 9am-5pm with setting up/down time either end of the day. Prep for a food drive would be approximately 4 hours.   Availability to respond to urgent queries would also be useful.

2. Health and Safety Coordinator

Your role is to support the Foodbank in monitoring and reviewing measures in place to minimise health and safety risks and accidents. You must be a positive advocate for health and safety at work and be a point of contact for volunteers/employees on H&S topics. We want you to carry out a program of health and safety inspections across all sites and support with carrying our risk assessments.

Having experience in H&S in warehousing or a public interface environment would be advantageous.

4. Box packers

We produce pre-packed emergency food parcels to go out to our distribution sessions. You will come into our warehouse to pack food parcels into crates. These parcels vary in size so you work to a ‘pick list’. You will also construct our parcels for delivery to clients. Box packing sessions occur on a Tuesday and Friday from 11.30-1.30. Medium to heavy lifting capability required.

5. Delivery drivers

You will work with a buddy and use your own car to deliver our emergency food parcels to clients who have requested a delivery. Deliveries occur on a Tuesday and Friday from 1pm and you will be asked to take out a maximum of 4 deliveries. We cover a wide geographical area. A clean driving licence is required as well as being confident to access an email account for delivery information.

6. Session support

You will work as part of a team of volunteers and be overseen by staff to give out emergency food parcels to clients during one of our sessions. We run five sessions a week at various times and locations across Stratford. You must be compassionate and have experience of dealing with vulnerable people. You must have skills to facilitate conversations so that we can signpost people into relevant support networks.
