Easter at Alveston Church

1st April 2021

The pandemic has caused upheaval to all our lives, not least churches, who for a second year in a row will not be able to offer the usual Easter services.

This year, from Good Friday through until the end of the school holidays, St James in Alveston is celebrating the season by organising an Easter trail in the churchyard, which they hope will be visited by children and their families. A donation of food for the Foodbank is the small ‘cost’ for entry,  a small price to pay for the things to see and do that will be on offer.

Children from Alveston school and Alveston Cygnets nursery, along with residents from Alveston Leys nursing home are amongst the donors of artwork – decorated eggs and crosses – which will be weather-proofed and adorning the stations that will be set up around the churchyard, each one telling the story of Holy Week in a sensitive and child-friendly way. Inside the church, a local artist will be telling the story of the Resurrection through a wonderful display using tissue paper on the glass entry doors into the body of the church.

Stratford Foodbank would like to say “thank you very much” to the people involved in organising this event at St James and for supporting the  Foodbank in this way. We hope lots of families are able to visit and follow the trail, as it sounds a brilliant activity to do with the children. Let’s pray for good weather!
